The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has denied issuing a letter of appointment to presidential aide Bashir Ahmad.
The letter has been shared multiple times on social media.
According to the letter, Mr Ahmad has been appointed “as the manager/supervisor of the National Production Monitoring System under the downstream monitoring and regulatory department on GL 05, S1 on contributory pension scheme in line with the Pension Reforms Act 2004 as (amended) 2014.”
The letter also stated that the appointment which will last for three months will see Ahmad earn N437,000.000 as salary.
But in a statement on Tuesday by its spokesman Paul Osu, the DPR said it was the handiwork of some mischief-makers hiding behind the veil of social media to spread fake news and mislead the public.
“The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) attention has been drawn to a fake letter of appointment circulating on social media purportedly issued to one Bashir Ahmad.
“This is the handiwork of some mischief makers hiding behind the veil of social media to spread fake news and mislead the public.
“We hereby advise members of the public to disregard the purported letter in its entirety as it is not from DPR.
“We wish to reiterate that employment into the Department is carried out in accordance with extant rules guiding such exercises in the Nigerian Public Service in line with due process,” the statement read.
Ahmad had also denied being appointed to managerial role in the DPR.
