Super Eagles striker, Obafemi Martins, has declared that he would jump at the chance to represent Nigeria at next year’s summer Olympics in Brazil.
The Dream Team VI booked a place at Rio De Janiero after coming first in the African qualifiers held in Dakar, Senegal.
Each qualifying country is expected to name three over-aged players in their 23-man squad and Martins stated it would be a dream come true to be “part of the Olympics”.
With 18 goals in 41 appearances, Martins is the country’s second all-time goal king, behind the legendary Rashidi Yekini.
Now 30, the Seattle Sounders striker who made a return to the national fold earlier in the year, is looking even forward to being part of the biggest sporting event in the world.
“I love my country and I always want to play for my country any time,” said Martins who scored 15 goals for his Major Soccer League side.
“If Siasia calls me to represent Nigeria at the Olympic Games in Brazil why not, I am always free to be part of the team.”
The former Newcastle, Inter Milan and Wolfsburg star was full of praises for coach Samson Siasia for defying all odds to clinch an Olympic berth.
“Siasia is a fantastic coach leading the dream team to winning ways in Senegal, so it’s the dream of every player to be part of the Olympics,” he added.
