Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected vote-buyer in the ongoing governorship election in Ondo State.
He was arrested on Saturday at ward 4, polling unit 007 outside St. Stephen’s Primary School, Akure, Ondo State.
Reports say the suspect was apprehended with two bags of money suspected to be used to induce voters.
The major contenders have since cast their votes.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the APC candidate, cast his vote at polling unit 6, ward 4 in Obenla, Ilaje Local Government Area (LGA).
Aiyedatiwa is contesting to retain the governorship seat in the off-cycle election against 16 other candidates from different political parties, including Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ajayi voted at Apoi Ward II, Unit 004, Kiribo.
He arrived at his polling unit located in Ese Odo Local Government Area of the state around 10:36am with wife to cast his vote.
Ajayi said it took almost 10 minutes before he could cast his vote after battling with accreditation, describing it as an attempt to frustrate voters.
“The system has been compromised. It is sad that the INEC can’t conduct an election well in one state,” he said.
Governorship candidate of the Labour Party Ayo Olorunfemi cast his vote at his polling unit 8, ward 5, Ajowa-Akoko in Akoko North West LGA.
Mr Olorunfemi arrived at his polling unit around 10:40 am and voted at exactly 10:45 am.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) included Olorunfemi’s name in the governorship election on Friday following a court verdict that asked for the replacement of Olusola Ebiseni.
On Wednesday, a three-member panel of Justices of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, sacked Ebiseni as the LP candidate ahead of the governorship poll.
