The Department of State Services (DSS) has refused to speak on the arrest of the founder of Restoring Isaachers Generation (RIG) Prophet Tomi Arayomi, his wife Tahmar and personal assistant Emmanuel.
The trio was arrested on Friday by DSS operatives at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos on Friday, it was gathered.
The cleric’s twin brother Tobi Arayomi raised alarm over the incident on Instagram around noon.
According to Tobi, his brother was apprehended by operatives of the DSS over a prophecy he gave about the 2023 polls.
A source told PUNCH that Arayomi was arrested for making “prophecies that are deemed to be inciting.”
Arayomi, who is based in the United Kingdom, had said before the polls that Nigerians should vote for an “outsider”, adding that Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would first emerge president-elect before things change.
One hour after raising alarm, Tobi confirmed also via Instagram that his brother and sister-in-law had been released while the PA was still in detention.
“We continue to pray for his PA Emmanuel to be released,” he wrote.
Arayomi and wife were scheduled to attend a programme in Abuja on Friday tagged ‘The Cross’ in commemoration of Good Friday.
Asked for comments on the prophet’s arrest, spokesperson of the DSS Peter Afunnaya told the newspaper, “What did the pastor tell you? Have you called the pastor and he told you he was abducted or arrested?”
