D’Tigers honour Sound Sultan with warm-up shirts ahead Australia game

Nigeria’s senior basketball team D’Tigers on Tuesday night honoured the late singer-songwriter Sound Sultan at its last warm-up game against Team Australia before the Olympics proper in Japan.

Sound Sultan who died on Sunday of throat cancer at the age of 44 was a known supporter of basketball development in Nigeria.

The team posted the shirt on Instagram, saying Sound Sultan’s legacy would live forever.

“We lost a member of our family this week. D’Tigers will honor the great Sound Sultan with these warmup shirts tonight. RIP. Your legacy will live forever,” it said.

Friends of Nigerian Basketball also honoured the rapper. “We honor Sound Sultan leading up to today’s matchup against Team Australia,” the group said in an Instagram post.

D’Tigers lost to Australia 69 to 108. The Nigerian team had recorded morale-boosting wins against USA and Argentina.

Nigeria is grouped alongside Germany, Australia and Italy at the Olympics holding between July 25 to August 7, 2021.
