A Lagos doctor who treated the Liberian man that died few days ago of Ebola Virus has tested positive to the Virus, Nigeria’s Minister of Health said on Monday.
“This new case is one of the doctors who attended to the Liberian Ebola patient who died,” said Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu.
Late Patrick Sawyer flew in to Lagos en-route a trip to Calabar for an official assignment but fell ill in the aircraft.
He was found to be infected with the virus when he arrived in Lagos on July 20. He died in quarantine on July 25.
Chukwu also said that eight persons that had first degree contact with the Liberian before he got to the hospital had also been quarantined and are under strict observation.
To check the spread of the disease, the Federal Government has inaugurated an Ebola Treatment Research Team.
Professor Innocent Ujah is co-chairman of the team that has Maurice Iwu, a Professor of Pharmacognosy and Officials from the Centre for Disease Control as members.
