Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has suspended the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters Uchenna Igwe over alleged gross misconduct and dereliction of duty.
Nwifuru announced this during a press briefing at his office on Tuesday in Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki.
The suspension, effective immediately, follows Igwe’s reported failure to execute an assignment concerning local government pension payments by a council chairman.
Igwe is the fourth commissioner to be suspended by Nwifuru in recent weeks. Last month, the governor suspended the commissioners for housing and urban development, water resources, and health, citing similar issues of dereliction of duty and gross misconduct.
Nwifuru emphasised that his administration is focused on fulfilling the people’s charter of needs and expects all government officials to align with this vision through accountability and dedication.
