Edo-based comedian Chukwu Emeka aka Broda Mike, who was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on June 14, in Benin City, Edo State, is to be detained till July 7, 2022, his lawyer has said.
Broda Mike makes skits addressing poor governance and insecurity among others which he posts on social media.
His lawyer identified simply as Mr Obo told PUNCH on Tuesday that the DSS got an order from the Criminal Court 2 to detain Broda Mike till July 7.
“There is a court order remanding the guy. Until that time expires, there’s no way they can release him. He’s in custody based on the court order,” he said.
The DSS is yet to release a statement on the arrest of the funnyman.
The newspaper said it obtained a video of Broda Mike from DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya.
In the video, the comedian is seen reporting on a communal clash that reportedly took place in Benin market.
The incident happened on June 11 at the New Benin Market area of Benin City. It was learnt that some traders went on a rampage after an Igbo trader was allegedly attacked with a machete by a northerner who is also a trader.
