Edo State lawmakers have impeached the speaker Francis Okiye following a motion by the House majority leader Henry Okhurobo.
Mr Okiye was removed on allegations of high-handedness.
Nine out of 10 lawmakers present during plenary on Monday signed the impeachment letter.
They also elected Esan West representative Marcus Onobun as the new speaker.
The Edo State House of Assembly has been rocked by crisis since Governor Godwin Obaseki inaugurated only nine out of 24 lawmakers-elect on June 17, 2019, at night.
