Elder statesman and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Edwin Clark has died at the age of 97.

His death was confirmed on Tuesday in a statement signed by a family representative, Prof. C. C. Clark.

“The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON on Monday, 17th February 2025,” the statement read.

The family expressed gratitude for prayers and noted that further details would be communicated later.

Clark’s death comes shortly after the passing of Afenifere leader Pa Ayo Adebanjo, who died at 96.

A strong advocate for the Niger Delta, Clark was a lawyer, administrator, and nationalist.

He served as Education Commissioner in the Mid-Western Region (1968–1971) and Finance Commissioner in Bendel State (1972–1975) before becoming Federal Commissioner for Information in 1975.

He was later elected a senator (1979–1983).

Beyond politics, Clark was a key figure in regional and national affairs, leading PANDEF, the South-South Peoples Assembly, and the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF).
