Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday raided the apartment of Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s two sons, arresting the children of former Abia State governor Theodore Orji.
Mr Abubakar’s spokesman Paul Ibe confirmed on Monday that the arrest was carried out over allegations of cash being stashed at the Maitama home of Abubakar’s sons.
Mr Ibe said that Senator Orji’s sons live in a flat in the same apartment with Abubakar’s sons.
On arrival, EFCC operatives discovered that Abubakar’s sons, Mustapha and Aliyu were in Dubai, United Arab Emirates for their master’s programme.
They then reportedly quizzed Mr Orji’s sons (one of them identified as Chiemeka), demanding to know where Abubakar stashes money in the house.
They were said to have told the Orjis that they had information that they (the Orjis) knew about the movement of cash into the house.
They asked Chiemeka and his brother to lead them to the flat occupied by the Abubakars but were told they didn’t have access to the flat.
The duo also denied knowledge of money being stashed in the compound.
They were then taken to the EFCC Abuja headquarters where they were questioned for several hours.
Though they were released, the Orjis had two of their vehicles towed away to the EFCC premises.
They are yet to retrieve their vehicles as at press time.
The EFCC is yet to issue a statement on this development as at press time.
