Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied arresting former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, his wife, Nkechi, and relatives.
Mr Okorocha, a member of All Progressives Congress (APC) handed over to Emeka Ihedioha of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday.
Rumours of the anti-graft agency investigating the former governor reached its peak on Thursday when unconfirmed reports of his arrest went public.
EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, described the reports as “fake news.”
He added: “We don’t investigate the source of disinformation. We investigate financial and economic crimes. So, if anybody is quoting us, we can then take it up.”
Okorocha has since been suspended by the leadership of APC for supporting his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, of another party, Action Alliance (AA), during the governorship election in March.
