The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced a 10-hour downtime for prepaid payment services scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The Disco said that the interruption would occur between 2:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. (14:00 p.m. – 23:59 p.m.).
This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday in Lagos by Mr Babatunde Lasaki, general manager of corporate communications at EKEDC.
According to Lasaki, the oncoming temporary service disruption is due to scheduled system maintenance and upgrades aimed at enhancing efficiency and improving the overall customer experience.
He said that during the downtime, postpaid customers would still be able to make payments through approved channels.
He added that the electricity supply would remain unaffected and that prepaid customers are advised to recharge their meters ahead of the downtime to avoid service disruptions.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. This upgrade is essential to provide our customers with a more seamless and robust service.
He further explained that once the upgrade was completed, customers would benefit from several improvements, including access to payment and consumption history.
Other benefits, the EKEDC spokesman said, include a simplified and more secure payment process, a user-friendly self-care portal for inquiries and issue resolution and a newly designed, customer-friendly postpaid bill format.
Lasaki also assured customers that EKEDC’s customer service team would be available to provide support during the downtime.
He urged customers to engage only through official customer service channels and avoid reaching out to individuals within the company.
The spokesman said that EKEDC continued to lead in technology, service delivery and customer experience.
He said the company currently ranked among the top-performing electricity distribution companies in Nigeria, as recognised by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
