Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for the July 14 Ekiti governorship election, has picked 39-year-old Kazeem Deji-Ogunsakin as his running mate.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ogunsakin, a native of Ado Ekiti, is the immediate past Chairman of Ado Ekiti Local Government.
He is currently the Head of Due Process unit at the governor’s office.
The PDP Chairman in the state, Chief Gboyega Oguntuase, told newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Friday that the decision to pick Ogunsakin, a young banker, was reached after consultations with stakeholders.
He added that “the choice of the 39-year-old economist and banker was informed by the need to involve the younger generation in governance of the state in line with global trend.
“It is also our belief that Ado Ekiti, being the state capital with the largest voting population, deserves consideration for deputy governorship position.
“It was also to give the Muslim community in the state a sense of belonging.”
Ogunsakin is a graduate of economics from Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, and holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Lagos.
