Ekiti-born chef Damilola Adeparusi, who is on a quest to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, has hit 61 hours of cooking in Ilupeju-Ekiti.
Adeparusi, a student of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), announced this on her Instagram page as of press time on Sunday.
She said, “Half way done and dusted. We keep going…”
Adeparusi began her 120-hour marathon cooking task at 12am Friday.
It was gathered that besides being a chef, Adeparusi is also a poet, songwriter, and editor.
She describes herself a a curious person with passion for research and learning new things.
Adeparusi is reportedly representing a church, Spirit Word Global Mission, in the “cook-a-thon competition.”
Her bio on Instagram says she was inspired by Lagos-based chef Hilda Bassey aka Hilda Baci whose 100-hour marathon cooking last month has not been verified by the Guinness World Records.
Adeparusi’s marathon cooking has been received with lack of excitement by many because Hilda Baci’s attempt had yet to be verified before Adeparusi’s effort to set a new record.
On Saturday, actress Ruth Kadiri criticised Adeparusi in a post on Instagram Story.
Adeparusi has made varieties of food such as rice and beans, Semovita with vegetables, yam porridge, and spaghetti.
Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council Rotimi Ojomoyela has sent words of encouragement to her and urged Ekiti indigenes to show her support as she attempts to make the state proud.
