A prominent community leader and politician from Ekiti State, Dr. Olayinka Daniel, has been conferred with a doctorate in English Language from the prestigious University of Lagos. The conferment took place on Thursday, marking another milestone in the life of the accomplished scholar, realtor and public servant.
Dr. Olayinka’s academic focus is on political semiotics, where he examines the language of politics, particularly how politicians use rhetoric during electoral campaigns to win the support of the electorate.
Beyond academia, Dr. Olayinka is a well-known figure in Nigeria’s political landscape. In 2007, he was nominated for the position of deputy governor in Ekiti State. He also contested for the chairmanship of Ado-Ekiti Local Government and served as special assistant to the minister of state for works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, in 2014.
The Ado-Ekiti-born leader has made significant contributions to community development, particularly in education. As President of the Ado-Ekiti Development Council (ADC), he has supported numerous youths by sponsoring their Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees, enabling many to achieve professional and academic excellence.
Born on October 3, 1963, to the Olayinka family, Dr. Olayinka attended Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti, for his secondary education before pursuing professional courses in computer science and estate management. His early career in estate management included tutelage under the current Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti, HRM Samuel Adu.
Dr. Olayinka later pursued higher education at the University of Lagos, where he earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and now doctorate degrees in English Language. His academic brilliance has already earned him a lecturing position at the institution.
