Comedian and motivational speaker, I Go Dye, has a sent a message to President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerians are watching his actions ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election holding on Saturday, July 14.
In a post to Instagram on Wednesday, the 39-year-old said the election will be a test to know if the 2019 general election will be free and fair.
“Let the rule that gave you the mandate that you enjoy today, be observed in Ekiti State election. History awaits you to do the needful, devoid of sentimental approach and partisan interest.
“This is the litmus test to clearly define if 2019 election will be free or if another June 12 is in the waiting. Nigerians are watching. Don’t allow the interest of one man or a few people around you to dent the presumed honesty that you have lived for,” he wrote.
The two top contenders in the Ekiti election are former Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent Deputy Governor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
President Buhari was in Ekiti on Tuesday to campaign for Fayemi.
Telling the electorates not to waste their votes, the President urged them to elect Fayemi, given the track record of the ruling APC administration in the country.
He said the people of Ekiti must not be deceived by the “stomach infrastructure” programme of the PDP government in the state, describing it as at variance with the norms in a functional democracy.
Buhari said he was in Ekiti not only to campaign for Fayemi but also to create awareness as well as sensitise the people on the dividends of democracy so far made available to them.
