Senator-elect Ike Ekweremadu of Enugu West has accepted his nomination for deputy senate presidency.
Mr Ekweremadu was deputy senate president from 2007 to 2019.
After being nominated on Tuesday by a lawmaker from his state, Senator-elect Chukwuka Utazi of Enugu-North, Ekweremadu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asked his colleagues not to vote for mace snatchers.
His veiled statement was in reference to Senator-elect, Ovie Omo-Agege, his main challenger, who allegedly facilitated the theft of the mace during the eight assembly.
Ekweremadu asked his colleagues not to encourage injustice and illegality and vote their conscience.
Senator Ahmad Lawan had earlier been elected as President of the ninth Senate after scoring 79 votes to defeat his major rival, Ali Ndume, who got 28 votes.
