Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Monday reacted to a post by a man named Abdullahi Zarma on Twitter calling for two million people to join the rally for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
El-Rufai said, with laughing emojis, that he hopes Mr Obi gets 200 people to join the rally.
Obi’s supporters have been holding rallies across the nation to garner support for the candidate who is perceived by many to be anti-establishment.
“In Kaduna? Not Kaduna Twitter? I hope you get Two Hundred persons on the streets, including those ‘imports’ that can’t open their shops on Mondays, and came on overnight bus last night!! I jus’ dey laff, wallahi tallahi!!” El-Rufai wrote.
His statement has since stirred controversy on social media.
El-Rufai’s party, the All Progressives Congress, has the former governor of Lagos Bola Tinubu as its presidential candidate for 2023.
El-Rufai had denied being against the choice of former governor of Borno State Senator Kashim Shettima as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.
