Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai who tweeted on Sunday despite suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria is currently out of the country, his spokesman Muyiwa Adekeye has said.
Qed.ng reported that Mr El-Rufai tweeted at 09:37pm on Sunday after attorney-general of the federation Abubakar Malami had ordered that Nigerians still using Twitter be prosecuted.
Malami’s order came after it was observed that many Nigerians still access Twitter through the use of virtual private networks (VPNs).
However, Mr Adekeye told Qed.ng on Monday that his boss was out of the country and did not need to use VPN.
“Thought to let you know that he is not in the country. He does not require VPN to use any app where he is,” he said.
Unaware of El-Rufai’s location, many Nigerians including former presidential aide Reno Omokri criticised the governor.
