Group chairman of UBA Plc Tony Elumelu on Tuesday celebrated his 59th birthday at UBA head office in Lagos with a giant ‘currency note’ cake.

The cake was labelled “United Bank for Africa. One Million Dollars” with Elumelu’s face on it.

To cut the cake, Mr Elumelu was joined by UBA staff including group director for communications at UBA Group and chief executive of UBA Foundation, Bola Atta.

Elumelu could not help but take sizable bites off his cake.

The founder of Heirs Holdings posted a photo of himself to Instagram in a black suit and trademark red tie.

He captioned the post, “+1 Grateful” with birthday emojis.

Elumelu had last week highlighted some of the challenges confronting Nigeria, calling for better leadership as the country elects new leaders in 2023.

“…Oil-producing countries are smiling as their foreign reserves rise. What is Nigeria’s problem? We need to hold our leaders more accountable! Elections are coming – security and resources need to be everyone’s agenda – let’s be vocal for our nation’s priority,” he had tweeted.

“Evil prevails when good people are silent. We need to be vocal about 2023. Let’s focus on Nigeria. Demand and advocate for leaders that deliver. In 2023, Nigeria must be on a strong trajectory for progress and development.”
