Emir of Gaya in Kano Ibrahim Abdulkadir has passed on at the age of 91.
Abubakar Ibrahim, media aide to Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, confirmed the development in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
Gaya is one of the emirates created in 2019 by Mr Ganduje after he split Kano Emirate into five namely Kano, Gaya, Rano, Bichi and Karaye.
The emirate’s spokesman Abbas Ibrahim-Gaya also confirmed the incident. He said the Emir died after a brief illness, adding that the late traditional ruler is survived by three wives, 28 children and many grandchildren.
According to Ibrahim-Gaya, the funeral prayer of the late emir will be conducted at 4 pm in the deceased’s palace.
