An employee, Emmanuella William, 25, on Tuesday, appeared before a Chief Magistrates Court, Life Camp in Abuja, charged with stealing an iPhone 7 plus valued at N200,000.
William, a resident of Byazhin Across Kubwa, Abuja, who is being prosecuted on two counts of criminal breach of trust and theft, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu told the court that the complainant, Mrs Ifeoma Stanley of Shop 17, Danjuma Ejiga Plaza, Gwarinpa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on March 14.
Nwachukwu said that Stanley employed the defendant as her personal assistant to manage her shop at Gwarinpa.
The prosecutor said that the complainant alleged that she entrusted the defendant with an iPhone 7 plus valued at N200,000 and perfume valued at N80,000
Nwachukwu said that when the defendant wanted to resign from her job, the complainant asked her to return all the properties of the organisation in her possession.
She said that the defendant, however, could not give an account of the iPhone 7 Plus and perfume.
The prosecutor said that during the police investigation, the defendant made a confessional statement, but all efforts made to recover the items from her proved futile.
Nwachukwu told the court that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 289 of the Penal Code.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Jobbo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 and two surety in like sum.
Jobbo adjourned the matter until May 22 for a hearing.
