The #EndSARS memorial protests in the form of car procession at Lekki toll gate in Lagos has caused gridlock in the area, with the police firing tear gas to disperse protesters.
The protesters trooped out on Wednesday to mark one year anniversary of the movement which saw the disbandment of the controversial police unit – the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and the unfortunate shooting of protesters by security forces at the toll gate on October 20, 2020.
The police had warned protesters not to continue with the march.
Activists who turned up at the toll gate with their cars were seen waving Nigerian flags from inside the vehicles and honking the horns while singing solidarity songs.
They told journalists that they will continue going to and fro the toll gate as their own way of protesting.
