Nigeria’s sole survival on the continent, Enyimba FC, could be on their way out of the CAF Confederation Cup following a shocking 1-0 home loss to Raja Casablanca on Wednesday.
The Confederation Cup is the continent’s second-tier elite competition – the equivalence of Europe’s Europa League.
Having recorded an impressive 5-1 mauling of Rwanda’s Rayon Sports, the Aba-based side were expected to continue that ride to the final, especially as they hosted the first leg.
However, faithful at the newly refurbished Enyimba International Stadium were in for a shock as the Moroccan side dominated their host.
The first half ended goalless with both sides even.
Surprisingly, though, Abdelilah Hafidi put the visitors in front shortly after the start of the second half.
The home side was later handed a lifeline after Al Warafali was penalized for handling the ball inside the box.
But the Nigerians guffed the opportunity as Raja ran away with a crucial win ahead of the return leg in a fortnight.
