Enyimba made a winning return to their homeground following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Congo’s CARA Brazzaville in the CAF Confederation Cup on Wednesday.
The Aba-based side had spent the past two seasons away from home in order to carry out renovation.
CARA came with the intent of picking a share of the spoils as it was enough to seal passage to the next round.
They were within few minutes of achieving their target but Wasiu Alalade had other thoughts.
The substitute netted the winning goal in added time bundling the ball home after Mfon Udoh’s free-kick came off the crossbar.
The victory means the Peoples’ Elephant finished top of the group with 12 points, three more than second placed CARA.
Williamsville of Ivory Coast who were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Djoliba of Mali finished third with eight points.
Enyimba dominated proceedings for majority of the game but were let down by their poor finishing.
CARA’s goalkeeper, Chansel Mohikola also made a couple of good saves to deny the hosts.
In the end, it was Alalade who ensure that the visitors went home with the maximum points after hitting the back of the net deep into stoppage time.
