Bidvest Wits coach, Gavin Hunt, has explained the shocking treatment his side were subjected to during their CAF Confederation Cup trip to Nigeria last week.
The Clever Boys returned home in the early hours of Friday morning, after what was said to be a gruelling journey to Calabar, where they suffered an exit from the continental club competition at the hands of Enyimba.
The two sides played to a goalless stalemate but Wits were eliminated on the away-goals rule after playing to a 1-1 draw at the Bidvest Stadium a fortnight ago.
Hunt is furious his side would have progressed had it not been the antics of their hosts.
“Have you understood what we’ve done in the last week or two? It was a nightmare, a disgrace. Things like that shouldn’t be in football,” lamented the South African coach.
“It’s a joke [what happened out there], I’m not even going to get into it. You guys should come, and then you’ll know about it instead of criticising us for getting knocked out.
“We can’t play there… Red cards again, disallowed goals, tackles are … you know, it’s crazy. The pitch, I mean, it was … Anyway, I don’t want to talk about it.”
Enyimba progressed to the group stage where they were pitched in Group C alongside AC Williamsville (Ivory Coast), CARA Brazzaville (Congo) and Djoliba (Mali).
