Dignitaries graced the celebration of the 50th coronation anniversary of Erelu Abiola Dosunmu, the Erelu Kuti IV of Lagos, on Sunday, July 28.
Dosunmu was installed as Erelu Kuti IV of Lagos in 1974.
Among those who witnessed the celebration in Lagos were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, statesman and philanthropist Kessington Adebutu, wife of Kwara State governor Olufolake Abdulrazaq, wife of former Ekiti State governor Bisi Fayemi, and traditional rulers.
Sanwo-Olu shared photos from the event on Instagram, saying “It was a pleasure to attend the 50th Coronation Anniversary of Her Royal Highness Erelu Abiola Dosunmu, The Erelu Kuti IV of Lagos.
“Today was not just a celebration of her influence as a business woman and socialite but also a tribute to her enduring legacy and contributions to her community.”
Earlier this month, Dosunmu, the Yeye Oodua, said the celebration would begin with an event on July 28 and run for a year.
The 77-year-old said the occasion would not just be a personal milestone for her, but also a validation and testament to the enduring cultural values of Lagos, which she has been a custodian and promoter of in the last 50 years.
“This milestone represents not only a personal achievement for me, but equally a testament to the enduring tradition and values that have shaped our kingdom for generations. This is why I want to use this milestone to not only promote the rich cultural heritage of Lagos State, but also promote literary works concerning her rich history and empower our people,” she said.
