Ese Brume got her first ever victory at a Diamond League meet on Friday, winning women’s long jump with a 6.83m leap at the 2022 edition of the elite competition.
The 25-year-old has come close on some occasions, finishing second in Doha (2018), and second in Eugene (2022).
Brume will now be competing in her first Diamond League final next week, punching her ticket to the showpiece in Zurich, Switzerland.
The Delta State native alongside Tobi Amusan, are the two Nigerian athletes who will be competing in the Diamond League final next week.
Reacting to her impressive jump, Brume wrote in an Instagram post, “6.83m to take the win today. Thanks @allianzmemorialvandamme.”
Brume is fresh off from her third place position in the women’s long jump at the 2022 Palio Citta in Rovereto, Italy.
It was her first action back on the field since reclaiming the Commonwealth Games title in Birmingham.
Brume finished third in the contest, jumping a mark of 6.53m on her fifth attempt. Milicia Gardasevic won the event, leaping a mark of 6.78m, while Jasmine Sawyers jumped 6.73m to secure second spot.
