Former governor of Kwara State Abdulfatah Ahmed has spent a second night in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ahmed has been facing interrogation since Monday at the Ilorin zonal office of the EFCC over alleged misappropriation of N10 billion.

The ex-governor’s chief press secretary AbdulWahab Oba told PUNCH on Tuesday that Ahmed had not been released.

“Yes, he is still with the EFCC and we are now in a dilemma over the issue because they keep changing the goalpost during the match. The case is taking a new dimension, which we don’t really understand for now,” he said.

Mr Oba added that after asking for two sureties who are federal directors the EFCC also demanded that the sureties provide evidence of landed property in Abuja.

He accused the EFCC of denying Ahmed access to his cook, doctors, and medication.

In 2021, a team of EFCC operatives questioned Ahmed at the headquarters of the anti-graft agency in the Jabi area of Abuja, concerning an alleged diversion of funds, amounting to N9 billion from the coffers of the Kwara State Government.
