Ex-Tottenham coach, Harry Redknapp, reportedly injured his wife after she was dragged down the road by his Range Rover.
The 69-year-old was dropping wife, Sandra, off at the shops when she caught her coat in the door in the freak accident on Wednesday.
Her foot was trapped in the footwell of the four-by-four car as it pulled off, dragging her down the road and leaving her with serious injuries and heavy bleeding.
Witnesses described how she lay screaming in agony as the ex-footballer hit the brakes when he realised what had happened.
One onlooker told The Sun newspaper there was “a lot of blood on the tarmac” and Mr Redknapp was “beside himself”.
Another shopper at the scene of the accident, in Bournemouth, said: “I was in a shop and a couple of people came in and said, ‘Crikey, there’s a lady who’s been dragged along the road.”
Sandra, who is also 69, was put in an ambulance and rushed to hospital.
The accident happened in Westbourne; around four miles near the pair’s £5 million home in Poole.
A friend of Mr Redknapp said: “Sandra did have an accident and was taken to hospital where she had an op.
“It’s a long story, but she should be OK.”
An ambulance spokesman said they took a woman in her 60s with a foot injury to hospital.
The couple have been married for 49 years and are parents to ex-England star Jamie Redknapp and Mark Redknapp.
