Former World Bank executive Oby Ezekwesili on Tuesday reacted to the clash between journalist Rufai Oseni and the police over his illegal use of BRT lane in Lagos.
Oseni had on Monday raised alarm over the incident, claiming a policeman pointed a gun at him over the traffic infraction.
The Arise TV anchor said he took the BRT lane with his private vehicle because he saw others doing it. He also accused the police of not going after other vehicles who took the BRT lane after him.
Following the resolution of the matter, Lagos police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said the policeman who allegedly pointed a gun at Oseni would be penalised if the claim was true.
Commenting on the incident, Mrs Ezekwesili said on Tuesday that she was glad the traffic offence was sorted out.
“Glad he sorted out the traffic offense. Now looking forward to watching @ruffydfire on @ARISEtv do us citizens the good service of his courageous evidence based analysis of the state of our country and people.
“May our journalism get more of his kind for our common good,” Ezekwesili tweeted.
Meanwhile, Oseni could be penalised by the Lagos State Government, according to a state official.
In a short note on Twitter, Gboyega Akosile, chief press secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described the journalist as a lawbreaker, saying Oseni had already admitted his offence to the police.
Mr Akosile said in the Monday tweet that Rufai would face the necessary penalty for flouting BRT rules.
