Rapper Olamide has become the first Nigerian rapper to bag a Grammy nomination.

The 66th Grammy Award nominees were announced on the official Grammy X handle on Friday, with Olamide bagging the ‘Best African Performance’ nomination for his collaboration with Asake.

Olamide was featured on Asake’s single ‘Amapiano’, making him the first Nigerian rapper to bag a Grammy nomination.

The duo will be competing against Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr and South Africa’s Tyla who were also nominated in the same category.

Burna Boy who is already a Grammy winner emerged as the Nigerian singer with the most nominations. He was nominated in the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ for his single ‘Sittin’ on Top of the World’ featuring 21 Savage.

Another Nigerian, Blessing Offor, got two nominations for ‘My Tribe’ in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album category and ‘Believe’ in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song category.

Three new categories made their debut at the 2024 Grammys; ‘Best African Music Performance’, ‘Best Alternative Jazz Album’ and ‘Best Pop Dance Recording’.
