Singer Falz has criticised organisers of the concert ‘Eko on Show’ held on Friday to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence.
The concert had electrifying performances from Teni, Davido, Tiwa Savage among others.
In a statement on Friday, Falz claimed concerts are being organised to distract youths from remembering those who died during the #EndSARS protest last year.
#EndSARS memorial protests are billed for October 20, one year after security forces opened fire on unarmed protesters at Lekki toll gate in Lagos.
“Best thing they could come up with is organizing ‘concerts’ to try and distract us from remembering the real heroes in all of this. The people they murdered.
“What we will never do, however, is be quiet. We will never ever be silenced. Not today, not on the 20th, not ever,” Falz said.
Without mentioning names, he also criticised Lagos police commissioner Hakeem Odumosu for threatening to crack down on #EndSARS memorial protesters.
Falz’s father Femi Falana had also chided the police saying protests are citizens’ legitimate means of speaking to those in power.
