Family, friends and fans of Islamic singer Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso has gathered to honour her memory with a Fidau prayer (prayer for the deceased).
Videos shared on Instagram on Thursday showed her children, family members and numerous Muslim clerics, including imams and alfas participating in Quranic recitations to pray for her soul.
Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso’s passing was first announced on Tuesday, followed by her final burial that same day at noon in Ijebu Aiyepe, Ogun State.
The news of her death was shared on Facebook by Ilorin-based cleric, Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh, who expressed his condolences.
He wrote, “Our sympathy goes to the family of Ruqayat Gawat for this great loss.
“May Allah forgive her shortcomings. RUQAYAT GAWAT IS GONE!”
Although the cause of her death has not been disclosed, her contributions to Islamic music and her profound connection with her audience remain a lasting legacy.
Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso is survived by her husband, Alhaji Shakiru Oyefeso and their children.
