Fourteen persons including a family of 13 were hacked to death by gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday at Agudu, a Bassa community in Kogi/Kotonkarfe Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Commissioner of Police Ede Ayuba told reporters that six other persons who sustained injuries had been moved to hospitals for treatment.
Mr Ayuba said he arrived at the crime scene with his team on receipt of the distress call.
The commissioner said the attack could have been triggered by an age-long feud in the community.
“For a man to lose his life and 12 other members of his immediate family, leaving a son as survivor is a tragedy which calls for concern,” he said.
The police chief further disclosed that the killers of the late Innocent Ofodile, owner of the popular Chuck’s Supermarket in Lokoja, who was brutally killed on Lokoja-Abuja road, had been revealed.
Ayuba explained that on receipt of discreet information on kidnappings and robbery incidents on the Lokoja-Abuja Road, a man named Vincent Omogor was arrested and in his confession, he said his cohorts now at large killed Mr Ofodile.
According to Omogor, the gang carried out the killing on the order of one of Ofodile’s shop attendants, who complained that he was not attended to by his boss when he approached him for financial assistance when his father died.
