The family of the late Senator Rose Oko who represented Cross River North Senatorial District on Tuesday visited the Senate.
Senate Leader Yahaya Abdullahi moved a motion that the Senate should pay tribute in honour of Oko who died on March 23 in a UK hospital. The motion was seconded by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
Abdullahi recognised the presence of some personalities including a former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim and former governors Liyel Imoke and Peter Obi among others.
In his tribute, Abaribe said: “Rose as we know was our colleague here and when we turn around to look that she is no more there, there is nothing else that tells us more about mortality than we have to confront this reality.
“This is a moment where we also have to review our post-mortality. In everything that she has done, she has always given and has continuously given.”
Senators Remi Tinubu, Rochas Okorocha, Sam Egwu and Orji Kalu among others took turns to eulogise her.
“On behalf of the Senate and the National Assembly, let me extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of our late colleague to government and people of Cross River State, and indeed our great nation,” Senate President Ahmad Lawan said.
The senate resolved to send a delegation to be led by Lawan to the burial of the late Oko.
Plenary was adjourned to Wednesday.
