Fans on Twitter are divided over singer Yemi Alade’s statement that she is on the same level as male colleagues, Wizkid and Davido.
In an interview with Hot FM, Yemi stated that there is no number on in the music scene in Nigeria because according to her, she capable of holding down shows just as Wizkid and Davido.
“I respect everybody, we all inspire each other in this industry… there is actually no number one because your top five artistes in Nigeria that are the biggest in Africa can shut down the exact same capacity, the same capacity Wizkid holds down in Africa, I hold it down, the same capacity Davido holds down in Africa, I hold it down, the same venues, we all shut it down.
“So there is no number one, and that is the truth but not everybody will agree to that, people will say Yemi shut up but that is the truth. Why don’t we go ask the promoters, the people who know the numbers?” she said.
While some fans agree with her, others said she is nowhere near her male counterparts.

Yemi Alade has toured worldwide since Johnny dropped. Probably Nigeria’s most successful female post ’99 act and certainly its must successful touring act. And one of the top two best live artistes, if not the best, currently.

Yemi Alade will sell out shows in countries across the continent. She will sell out shows in places with or without Nigerians.
She says this fact & people are pressed.
Because as a woman, how dare you be proud of your accomplishments & even have the guts to say them aloud?

You can criticize Yemi Alade from now till tomorrow, it’s all good but just know she’s the biggest female artiste in Africa read well i didn’t say best, i said biggest if you doubt it’s fine but just know if you reply this with epistles I’ll still not reply and argue with you. pic.twitter.com/lBohnso8vi

Tiwa sings better than Yemi alade! But Johnny still got the highest number of views on YouTube by a female artiste in Africa. Yemi has two MaMa female artiste of the year Awards, mobo and BET nominations…… and She sings in French too. She’s hardworking

My new friend from Zimbabwe was praising Nigerian music, which is no longer surprising. What stunned me was when he said Yemi Alade was his fav by a mile. https://t.co/Q7o953JWx2

Yemi Alade is a great performer. She pays attention to detail, and puts in the effort for live shows. She is big outside Nigeria, because she markets well.
But her music isn’t great. And we have a higher standard of pop music to grant acceptance to poor music.
She don cast.

I can see that you people want to turn the discussion around Yemi Alade to a “prophet has no honour at home” thing.
We know that she gets mad love in east africa and other countries.
We also know that she has a tendency to sing rubbish.

I am not a fan of Yemi Alade cos of her shallow lyrical contents but do i agree she can pull as much crowd as Wizkid, Tiwa and Davido would do outside Nigeria? Yes of course! She’s actually big outside the country.
