Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi on Thursday attended the funeral of seven officers of the Nigerian Air Force who died in the military plane crash on Sunday.
Mr Fayemi is seen in photos he shared on Twitter consoling Omolola Olawunmi widow of the Ogotun Ekiti native Flight Sergeant Olasunkanmi Olawunmi who was among the victims.
The governor, in his tweet, prayed for the repose of the deceased’s souls.
“At the funeral ceremony of the seven Air Force officers, including late Flight Sergeant Olasunkanmi Olawunmi from Ekiti State, at the Military cemetery in Abuja. May the souls of the departed rest in peace and may their families and loved ones receive God’s comfort. Amen,” he said.
Fayemi had paid the widow a visit on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft en route Minna in Niger State crashed close to the runway of the Abuja airport after reporting engine failure.
Others who died include Flight Lieutenant Haruna Gadzama (captain), Flight Lieutenant Henry Piyo (co-pilot), Flying Officer Michael Okpara (airborne tactical observation system (ATOS) specialist).
The rest are Warrant Officer Bassey Etim (ATOS specialist), Sergeant Ugochukwu Oluka (ATOS specialist) and Aircraftman Adewale Johnson (onboard technician).
They were buried at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja.
