Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi met his predecessor Ayo Fayose on Thursday morning just before the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was scheduled to commence.
Those who joined Fayose in meeting Fayemi include governors of Akwa Ibom and Jigawa Udom Emmanuel and Badaru Abubakar respectively.
Fayose’s preferred candidate Olabisi Kolawole had emerged governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the primaries held on Wednesday.
Emmanuel was the chairman of the Ekiti PDP governorship primary election committee while Badaru is the head of same committee in the APC.
Fayemi said the visit of the personalities shows that politics should be without bitterness.
“This camaraderie demonstrates clearly that for us in Ekiti and indeed in the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, it is politics without bitterness. After hot exchanges and political disagreements, it’s possible to disagree without being disagreeable. Politics should be about values and vision, not violence and viciousness,” he said in a tweet.
Meanwhile, seven out of eight aspirants have called for the suspension of the APC governorship primaries in Ekiti.
The aspirants calling for postponement include Senators Opeyemi Bamidele, Dayo Adeyeye, Femi Bamisile, Bamidele Faparusi, Kayode Ojo, Olusola Afolabi, Demola Popoola and Kayode Ojo.
Protesting with their supporters on Thursday at the party’s secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, the aspirants accused state government officials of hijacking the process to favour Fayemi’s preferred aspirant, Biodun Oyebanji.
