Fayemi not planning to be president – Aide

Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi

Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, is not nursing any presidential ambition in 2023, his aide has said.

Mr Fayemi’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Segun Dipe, said on Wednesday that rumour of such plan was false and a misrepresentation of Fayemi’s personality and conduct.

Mr Dipe said the rumour peddlers must have misunderstood Fayemi’s relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari and took his reconciliatory efforts for an eye at the top seat.

He added that Fayemi would prefer to be seen as a bridge-builder among the state governors whose forum he presently chairs.

“Fayemi is a sitting governor and he chairs the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. He enjoys these roles and he is playing them to the best of his ability,” he said.

“His objective is that of engaging in processes such as negotiation, mediation, conciliation, and arbitration in order to move a seemingly violent conflict into non-violent dialogue, where differences are settled through conflict transformation processes or through the work of representative political institutions.”
