Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has begun reviewing the procedure that led to the recruitment of about 2,000 new workers by immediate past governor, Ayo Fayose.
The workers have been protesting their non-recognition as bona-fide civil servants by Fayemi’s government.
Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Values Orientation, Muyiwa Olumilua, disclosed the state government’s plan on Friday while addressing a group of physically challenged persons also affected.
“We want to assure that available vacancies will be equitably filled without prejudice and undue political consideration,” Mr Olumilua said.
He added that Fayemi set up a committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Bisi Egbeyemi, to review the appointments which he said lasted even late into the night before Fayose’s exit.
The commissioner said that of the 2,000 new recruits, 600 teachers were recruited into the Teaching Service Commission (TSC), 400 personnel were employed into the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) while 1,000 were injected into the Ministry of Establishment.
He added that majority of the appointments did not go through due process as their biometrics could not be found.
