The brothers of former governor of Ekiti State Ayo Fayose have ridiculed Senator Dino Melaye over his failure to clinch the senatorial ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Melaye, who formerly represented Kogi West Senatorial District, lost the rerun primary on Tuesday to a three-term member of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Yusuf representing Kabba/Bunu Ijumu Federal Constituency.
While Yusuf polled 163 votes to clinch the PDP ticket for Kogi West, Melaye could only manage 99 votes. The candidates went into a rerun following a stalemate on Monday where they polled 88 votes each.
Melaye conceded defeat in a post to Twitter, alleging there was a gang-up against him.
Reacting to his defeat, Mr Fayose’s brothers, one of whom is known as Isaac, adopted Melaye’s method of singing to mock his detractors.
“Dino, you are a loser, Dino you don lose Senate pata pata,” they sang in Pidgin English in a video which has since gone viral.
After the song, one of the brothers said that Melaye lost because he disrespected the elders.
They also asked him to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In April, Melaye attacked Fayose after the presidential aspirant posted a video of himself on social media eating local delicacy Amala after purchasing his form to contest the presidency on the PDP platform.
Melaye said in a statement, “Incidentally, the mauling of amala gained more publicity over the collection of the presidential nomination form in a pretentious exhibition of dining with the masses. This frugal populism has since been deflated by allegations of charges for the ferreting of billions of naira from public coffers in Ekiti State. Are amala and abula so expensive?
“The issue before Nigerians now is not who can eat more, but who can produce food.”
