The Federal Government of Nigeria presented former national team coach, Clemens Westerhof, documents to an apartment in Abuja.
The reward was for guiding the country to its first ever World Cup in 1994, and getting to the round of 16 at the Mundial.
The government subsequently promised him a house in the capital city which it didn’t fulfil until now.
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, handed over the house documents on Monday and expressed regret at the delay in fulfilling the 25-year-old pledge.
“It is unfortunate that this is a promise that has taken us so long to redeem. But it is indeed better late than never in this case,’’ he said.
Westerhof expressed regrets at the death of members of his team, such as Rashidi Yekini, Uche Okafor, Thompson Oliha and Stephen Keshi, and thanked the government for redeeming the pledge made to him.
