The management of the Federal University, Dutse has discredited claims on social media that the president of the Students Union Government (SUG) Muhammad Umar attends lecture with escorts.
Photos of the SUG president went viral on Thursday, showing him arriving in a customised Mercedes Benz car with escorts.
However, the varsity’s spokesman Abdullahi Bello in a statement explained that the pictures were taken when students of criminology and security studies were demonstrating VIP protection.
“Our attention has been drawn to a post circulating in the social media insinuating that the Students Union President of Federal University Dutse, Comrade Muhammad Mukhtar Umar attends lecture in a convoy with presumed security in tow.
“The said pictures were taken when the students of Criminology and Security Studies (CSS) Department had their week and the CSS students put to practice how to protect high profile personality by bringing the SUG president to the occasion in that manner,” the statement read.
Mr Bello said it is impossible for that number of students to abandon their lectures just to escort the SUG president to attend a class.
He further said in his statement that the institution would not condone such act, adding that it takes the training of its students both in character and learning seriously.
The SUG president Umar told BBC Pidgin that we was unhappy with the way bloggers spread false news about him.
He said it was important for people to confirm things before posting or writing.
“It is as the school has said, I am not one who likes to show off or do things like that. The pictures were from a single event and the security were students of criminology who were carrying out experiment,” he said.
