Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, will on Friday, June 1 distribute 30 buses, 160 motorcycles and 25 tricycles to residents of his Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in Lagos.
This comes after the backlash that followed the purchase of a Mercedes Benz G-Class with a price tag of N75million for his wife Salamatu.
The 55-year-old lawyer found himself in the eye of the storm after pictures and video clips of the presentation of the SUV to celebrate his wife’s 50th birthday were posted on social media.
Gbajabiamila’s choice of a Gucci suit estimated to be worth more than a million naira and his wife’s outlandish outfit to the mad-hatter themed party also earned the couple harsh criticism from Nigerians.
As spin doctors work overtime to manage the damage done to the reputation of the former US-based lawyer, the lawmaker will be launching a transportation initiative called Gbaja Ride at the Teslim Balogun, Surulere on June 1.
Meanwhile, friends and family of the embattled lawmaker have blamed overzealous guest for releasing pictures of Mrs Gbajabiamila’s birthday party, held at their Banana Island residence, on social media.
