Afrobeat singer Femi Kuti on Wednesday attended the trial of his brother Seun Kuti at the Magistrate’s Court in Yaba, Lagos.
Also in attendance was the senior advocate of Nigeria Femi Falana and Seun’s wife Yetunde.
Seun was released on bail on Tuesday night, after he was detained when he turned himself in on May 15, 2023.
The Afrobeat star was dressed in white for his court appearance.
His trial was initially scheduled to continue on Tuesday but it was adjourned as the court failed to sit.
Seun is facing assault charges for slapping a police officer in uniform on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on May 13. He was arrested and handcuffed on May 15 after the Inspector General of Police Usman Baba ordered his arrest.
On May 16, Femi and his son Made attended the arraignment of Seun. On that day, the court refused an application by the police to remand Seun for 21 days. It, however, remanded him for 48 hours for the police to conclude their investigation. On the expiration of 48 hours, the court extended the remand order by four days.
Made shared a photo of himself and father in court on Instagram after several persons criticised Femi for not backing Seun.
Made urged the critics to realise that there is more to life than what they see on their phones.
“At court yesterday. I don’t like that we have to post things on social media to show/prove we’re doing everything we can as a family. But here you go.
“Because of this, many are cursing at us under my father’s last post, swearing at us for doing nothing. We must accept there’s much more to life than what we see on our phones,” he wrote.
