Afro beat singer Femi Kuti and his ex-wife Funke have teased Yeni Kuti, the first daughter of the late Afro beat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, about inheriting their grandmother’s powers.
Femi posted Yeni’s photos on Instagram Monday night, wondering if their grandmother, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, gave Yeni her powers.
“On a lighter note, just wondering if Granny (Fela’s mother ) gave YK POWER her Powers,” he wrote.
Reacting in the comment section of the post on Tuesday, Funke praised Yeni for her strength and agility adding that her power remains unmatched even at 61.
She wrote: “Hmmmm I think so o! In fact, I believe so because this YK’s strength, agility and power are unmatched At 60+ YK powerful.”
Responding to her comments, Femi playfully denied making comments about his sister, which led to the ex-couple laughing and loving up under the comment section of the post.
Yeni also joked about dealing with Femi when she catches him.
“When I catch you,” she wrote.
To celebrate her 61st birthday, Yeni’s younger brother Seun Kuti penned down a lovely message to her to reassure her of their loyalty.
Like Funke, Seun Kuti described Yeni as a powerful matriarch, adding that her deepest desires will be granted as she adds another year.
He wrote: “Happy birthday to our powerful Matriarch. We are all loyal to your leadership and humbled by your kindness. May this new year bring you your deepest desires. Love you loads. @yeniakuti“.
A retiree from active dancing, Yeni co-manages the Afrika Shrine with her younger brother Femi Kuti.
She also appears on Your View, a popular morning programme on TVC anchored by Morayo Afolabi-Brown.
Yeni was also celebrated by the crew of Your View in a video she posted on Instagram on Tuesday.
