Afrobeat star Seun Kuti is the toast of his family following his nomination in the Best World Music Award category for the 2019 Grammy Awards.
The youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti was recently celebrated by his siblings Yeni Kuti, Femi Kuti, KunleKuti and Motunrayo Kuti at a private ceremony.
Posting a short clip of the get together on Instagram, the 35-year-old wrote: “When my entire family comes together totoast to my nomination. We must always put the glory of the Anikulapo Kuti dynasty above all else!”
Seun, who got the Grammy nomination for his Black Times album, will be competing with four other nominees.
They are Bombino (NigerRepublic) – Deran, Fatoumata Diawara (Mali) – Fenfo,Soweto Gospel Choir (South Africa) – Freedom and Yiddish Glory (Canada)– The Lost Songs of World War II.
The 2019 Grammy ceremony is set to hold on February 10 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, US.
Femi Kuti has bagged four Grammy nominations in the World Music Category in the past.
He got his first nomination in 2003 for the album Fight to Win. Subsequent nominations came in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
