FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, has hailed newly crowned Nigerian champions, Plateau United, for their historic feat.
Against all odds, the Jos club emerged as the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) winners – their first in history.
For that reason, the FIFA supremo couldn’t hide his admiration for the club.
In his letter addressed to President of Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, and made public by the Glass House, the Swiss-Italian said: “Plateau United are the 2017 champions of Nigeria.
“It gives me great pleasure to send my warmest congratulations to Plateau United for their first–ever championship title!
“This title is the result of the determination of everyone involved and my congratulations go to the players, the coach, the administration, the entire technical and medical staff as well as the fans for this great achievement.
“On behalf of the entire football community, I would like to thank Plateau United and your association for helping to spread the positive message of football. I remain at your disposal and look forward to meeting you soon.”
Plateau ended the campaign with 66 points – four more than MFM FC who finished second.
Enyimba and Akwa United, who finished in third and fourth places respectively, garnered five and six points fewer than the champs.
